How to Host your Template Images in Blogger (Unlimited Bandwitdh)..?
Posted by Kranthi on Tuesday, August 4, 2009This post explains how to host your template or any other images in blogger without any bandwidth limitations:-
If you are a regular reader of Blogger Tricks, you probably know that previously I h
ad many problems hosting my template images. A year back, I used photobucket to host my template images.. but, the problem with photobucket and many other free image hosts is their bandwidth limitations. Once, you exceed a specific amount of bandwidth, your images won't show, instead.. an irritating ' bandwidth exceeded' image shows. Next, after that I tried to create.. like a new photobucket account per each template.. but, that also exceeded in a matter a couple of weeks.
Not only me, my other blogger template designers are also struggling to find a reliable, free image host with unmetered bandwidth.
ad many problems hosting my template images. A year back, I used photobucket to host my template images.. but, the problem with photobucket and many other free image hosts is their bandwidth limitations. Once, you exceed a specific amount of bandwidth, your images won't show, instead.. an irritating ' bandwidth exceeded' image shows. Next, after that I tried to create.. like a new photobucket account per each template.. but, that also exceeded in a matter a couple of weeks.I tried to upload the images to blogger and copy the image url from the status bar and use it in templates.. but it didn't worked. But, recently I came to know that we can actually host the images( large) in blogger and hotlink, use them in templates, forums, etc.
Here is the trick..
As usual, create a new post in blogger and upload your template images to that post... but don't publish it... keep it as a draft.
Once you completed uploading all the images, Open each image in a new window.

Once, the image is loaded in the new window, what I previously did was to copy the image location from the status bar and paste/hotlink it in templates. But, it didn't worked!

Now, the trick is, many people don't know that the url which we copy from the status bar is not exactly the direct link to that image file... that's why we can't hotlink to that image.
So, what we have to do to hotlink to that image is Right Click on the image and ' Copy Image location'. (for firefox users). For Internet explorer users, Right click on the image and go to Properties and then copy the image url from there.

Example:
For the above picture, status bar shows...
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Toi-rh0Nm00/Sl7sAqR7I9I/AAAAAAAADcU/0oqHcfSV46M/s1600-h/2008-05-28_124414.jpg
which don't work.
And the Real image url we get after right clicking and copying image location is..
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Toi-rh0Nm00/Sl7sAqR7I9I/AAAAAAAADcU/0oqHcfSV46M/s1600/2008-05-28_124414.jpg
Which works and we can do whatever we want.. with unlimited bandwidth :D
Hope this trick will be useful to many people who are searching for unlimited bandwidth image hosts.

This is aweosme tip Kranthi !
Each time we upload image to blogger, there are 2 addresses shown there on html editor. The anchor tag of image is show real address. Not the img tag src, but the a href tag. I already use this trick for a while.
@ poside,
That only work with small pictures (resized pic).. not large ones(original dimensions).
Kranthi, I'm not meaning to be offensive, but I find this quite surprising. Not that this tip is new to me, what surprises me is that this tip is new to you. Actually, theres an easier method,
Right Click > View
I went to compare the image URL, and I got a different URL from clicking the image. Also, whats better is that by doing the above mentioned method, you can use it for ANY image on ANY site (except for sites with disabled or edited right-click menus).
However, I am not sure as to it will work, but I am 100% sure that it will work with your method. If I am wrong however, please correct me.
Good Intellect
that is really great...
these images get automatically upload to Google picasa and we can share them easily..
This is a nice post...
Its relatively much easier if one just Looks at the Source of the Images ie, < img src="The Actual Link" after postinng the images.
This Link should be used...
Thanks for sharing, kranthi.
good news... thanks .. :)
@ Debajyoti Das,
If we copy the image url from img src tag.. it don't work.. Blogger is smart to prevent hotlinking and saving bandwidth.
Nice...you censor comments when they are saying the truth....copyright .... giveme a break ...you just copied it from another one...just google for what you posted....and you'lll se how this is old news..
All the images that are uploaded thru Blogger, are hosted on Google Picasa.
What happens is once you create a Blogger Account, you are also creating a new Picasa account.
Sign into your Google account, go to Picasa you will see all of your blogger images, all you need to do is right click on each image to get the direct URL, make sure the image is maximized first.
The same goes for Windows Live Writer, it will create a new sub-folder in Picasa with a name as "WindowsLiveWriter".
Switcher
I like the way you explained it here. The tip could come in handy! Thanks again, Kranthi.
@ Miguel,
Show me the link please...??
@ Switcher,
Yea.. I know that.. but, what happens is, once you upload an image to blogger, it is uploaded to blogger hosting(with blogger domain in the image url) aswell as Google picasa (with google or other domain in the image url).
And Also, if you upload big images to Google picasa, they will be automatically resized..and also, google picasa can't support some image formats like .gif,.png,etc..
Hi, if you upload to blogger doens't it get resized to max 400pixel width? Or has it changed? Okay, I see s1600 instead s400 so I guess blogger changed it:)
This could be awesome:) But I think Blogger will put the 1024 mb on it, no? Has anyone reached 1024 mb yet?(you can check at the picasa website).
Why you have to post using image, we can use picasa directly, same result. the hotlink almost like that
wuah..!!! what a trick you've got here. brilliant kranthi. nice job bro.. :D
Really Intelligent tip I must say :-) Even though I dnt use blogger anymore..I still love it..as i started with it back ago.
you are my hero!
A year back, I used photobucket to host my template images too, and this month started the problem with the bandwidth limitations. I upload the images temporarily in a hosting and now you have solved the problem.
sorry, my english is--- :(
I am guessing that my previous comment was not approve, thus I don't see it here. But I am commenting again just to be safe.
The third comment (not including Kranthi's) has an even smarter method to this. The method given was MUCH easier compared to this. No offence, but it makes this sound like a tutorial on creating a whole new template (which is hard).
The method given here isn't complicated but it takes a long time to do it. However, the method suggested by the third commenter only gave us two steps, and that is Right Click > View.
I have tested out the URL given from the mentioned method and it works completely fine (I waited for 4 days, and one including the day I posted my previous comment, which I believe was not approved, just in case).
I am surprised by how simple and easy it was to get the URL, but I am even more surprised at the tutorial on this website as it is long and complicated (once again, no offence if any of the above sounded offensive).
So please Kranthi, approve this comment and show the World an easier method. I am doing this out of kind heartedness to make it easier for others.
@ Anonymous on July 18,2009,
LOL :D,
Ok.. you right click > view..
and what next..? the url will be automatically copied..? Nope.. You're wrong. You have to copy the url from the status bar or right click > copy image location.
Both the tuts are same.. the only change is..
instead of Right click > Open in new tab
you Right click > View....? rite ?
So, No difference between the two..
"No offence, but it makes this sound like a tutorial on creating a whole new template (which is hard)."
Its long..? I don't think it takes more than 15 seconds to do it.
But, if you want to create blogger template.. It takes lot of hours.
Have a nice day!
Dear sir,
What A great Post I Like It,
Thankx For It.
hurry!!!
but how much band i have for my photos exactly? its for the first time when i hear about that. I belive 1 can upload up to 1000MB and no band limit whit picassa. It true or i have a band limit
I had to get a premium photobucket account for exactly this reason. I think that it has been one of the best investments because I host a ton of HD wallpapers on Zixpk.com and I also give away blogger templates and its nice to have a really easy way to share my images. In my opinion just upgrade and get unmetered bandwidth.
**Also guys Zixpk.com is having a contest where we are going to giveaway a custom designed blogger template to you liking designed by Zixpk.com to two lucky winners. Click on the link to see how you could win. http://www.zixpk.com/2009/07/giveaway-custom-blogger-template.html
Hi Kranthi,
about picasa, it accept all format gif png jpg...
for the size, picasa do not resize your, it retain the original one safe and provide you different size, as you know the max size is 800 when you want to use but this is not true because I have for example a pic 972x5 bigger than 800, to use it in full size you have to correct the image link change (.../s800/...) with (.../s1600/...), choose a bigger size than the original
<400 => s400
<800 => s800
>800 => s1600
for blogger all images are stored in the picasa account and there we have limit of only 100 mb space. After that it need for upgradtion by paying money
hey frenz ,
the above trick has to be modified according to your browser, so i have solved the problem just one common trick for every browser you just can catch that at thebloggerstuff.blogspot.com

When you use this method, how do you alt text your images to make them search-able on SEO?
I've tried loading pics directly to blogger (using smallest size) so optimize them and to save bandwidth, so hopefully they'll load faster; then edit html on post and add alt text to pictures. I've also tried loading picture to photobucket, where they are already alt text; but then when someone clicks on your picture to enlarge it, they're taken to photobucket rather than your blog, then you have to change the location from photobucket urls to your blogger url. Both methods work, both take time, I think blogger is a little easier because I'm more used to it; but there is the size issue there.
Thanks, please swing over to my blog and explain
Sandy
Excellent tip, of which I make use. I come to inform that blog http://escatambulo.blogspot.com/ uses of some copies of its sidebar without authorization, as soon with number of subscribers of feedburner and twitter, among others. Good for checking, therefore she is a practitioner of plagiarism of texts also.
well/// thanks for share
yeah that trick is right. i had try it
Hey kranthi..I always like your post...you always share the new for us...thank you so much...
Regards,
Blogspot Template
easier method, when you upload a image get the link after src="" (between the ""). @khammami above mentioned the different sizes since when you upload an image it copies them on your picasa.
what i did is i created a dummy post where i upload the pic there first and copy the link and save as draft. that works for me cuz i have a backup of my images, its faster then creating a tab etc. etc. and i use a premade img template.
I don't know why my comments get blocked when I am only saying thank you but anyway wishing you great success for providing 1st class templates and fantastic ideas. Without your site I would not have been able to make my blog the way I perceived it. Thanks again!
Awesome Tips Dude ... i am trying
Nice info.. I want to try thats
Salam Cinta Damai dan Kasih Sayang 'tuk sahabatku terchayank
I LOVE U VULLLLLL
thanks for sharing...its a new for me
Hey! Thanks for the post. I really liked your blog. check out mine at www.royalmag.net and tell me what you think!
hey thats such a gr8 tute...I only wish it had been a month earlier ...I upgraded to a premium a/c last month. But no worries. It will save me money next yr forth. Thanx a lot.
I have one more query. Where can I upload javascript files? I tried all the free servers but they are not so reliable. Plz tell me if there is some way I can upload to blogger directly. Can you please tell me the benefits of custom domain. Will switching to custom domain allow me to upload js files? Does custom domain enable storage space?
I totally agree that the third comment and "Anonymous" is wrong. By right-click on an image and choose "View" (actually this is View Image), you still need to do one more thing, that is copy the URL of an image. But there's an issue here with this method: the image will be open in the same tab, that means after copying image's URL, you gotta go back to the previous page, and it takes more time.
So, if you have a mouse with middle button, it's so easy to you because you just use the middle-click to open an image in a new tab (I'm sure that this method is much easier than right-click > Open in a new tab).
Finally, I wonder that: if we upload an image to Blogger (or BlogSpot) or Picasa, I think we still have a band, right? I'm not sure about that, please tell me if anyone know. Thanks!
wow your blog contains so many informations..
keep writing..

wowwww....i like your trick...thanks for sharing
This is a great tip. But what blogger basically does is host your pictures in Picasa, google's Image Hosting Site. I think it would be better and easier if you use picasaweb.google.com to host your image files. You get unlimited bandwidth there too.
hi
dear i have done all the techniques which you describe above but i get no result , i wand to edit the logo text ( of Schemer Mag template ) , would you guide me more

that's Greate ..! thanks for this new tips
I do not know in what the problem is. I am currently studing the blog. But I'm Creating a draft, put the picture in. Copy the link of images and oops! Everything is ok! Certainly for a resized images you need to open the original first.
http://dgbomb.blogspot.com/
thanks for the tricks..i always love your post..
Blogger will upload your image to their image hosting site "Picasa". From the Picasaweb interface you make get the actual URL link that you make hotlink into anywhere. Remove the s400 s800 s1600 to get the actual dimension of the image.
This is aweosme tip Dear Kranthi !
wow your blog contains so many informations..
keep writing..
